From Navy Officer to Wellness Advocate: Reshaping How We Think About Wellness

In this episode, Leslie and I dive deep into her transformative journey of fitness, nutrition, and personal growth. She shares why she started her business, the journey to where she is today, and the power of letting go of shame and guilt, especially as a mom!

Leslie’s story is one of dedication and transformation. Her career began as a registered dietitian and naval officer, where she earned a master’s degree and multiple fitness certifications. Balancing a demanding career with family life, Leslie made the courageous decision to leave the Navy and focus on her true passions: fitness and nutrition. This led to the founding of Fit and Fabulous Family Nutrition in 2020, driven by her experiences and a particularly challenging daycare situation that highlighted the need for balanced family nutrition.

Key Takeaways:

  • The importance of self-forgiveness and rewriting one’s narrative.
  • Embracing gratitude for Jesus and adopting a positive approach to food.
  • Strategies for making exercise a consistent habit by tuning into one’s body and intuition.

About Leslie:

Meet Leslie Urbas – Registered Dietitian

I attended college in St. Louis, MO, at Fontbonne University, graduating in 2008, and St. Louis University, finishing in 2009. I obtained my Registered Dietitian credential and moved to Jacksonville, FL, in 2009 to join the Navy.

I worked as a naval officer dietitian from 2009 to 2019. I was on active duty for three years and in the reserves for seven years. During this time, I also finished my master’s degree from the University of North Florida.

During this time, I also worked at the Naval Hospital as a civilian RD and received my personal training and group fitness certifications.

I met my husband in 2016. I got married in 2017 in a hurricane, and we now have two beautiful kids (2018 and 2020).

In 2019, I quit my job at the Naval Hospital and began dreaming up Fit and Fabulous Family Nutrition.

I started this business in January 2020. It has taken a lot of work, but I am now efficiently running a company, a family, and a military wife life.
