Hello Love!
A few weeks ago I was invited to an exclusive blogger event for Megan, co-owner of The ZEN Succulent with her newnew book – Modern Terrarium Studio!
It Was AMAZING!
Seriously!
If you’re local to the Triangle Area of North Carolina, you should totally take her workshops! I found Megan to be extremely knowledgeable, passionate and a true expert!
Plus you’ll walk away with some eco friendly goodness!
Did you know that plants clean & detoxify the air?
I have a few house plants in my own home, they always remind me of my mom. She always has plants around her home and I love that about her. Te amo Mami!
Without Further Adieu… here is one of many amazing, amazing DIYs that you can find in Megan’s Book…
PLANT WORLD
Just 3 easy Steps!! Found on page 56
Materials
- Air Plants
- Succulents
- 12″ (30.5cm) glass globe
- Cactus and succulent soil mix
- Activated Charcoal
- Decorative gravel (Optional: you can also add sand)
- 10″ (25cm) ghost wood piece or any unique piece of wood (i.e drift wood, I Love me some drift)
- Paintbrush (optional, works really great to dust off soil, gravel, etc from your succulents)
- E600 glue or floral wire (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS
[dropcap]1.[/dropcap] Spread the stones and gravel.
This was by far one of my favorite parts, adding the soil on top of this was a bit, bitter sweet. The sand and gravel provides drainage for your succulent.
“Gently place decorative stones evenly into the glass globe, filling it one fifth of the way. Where there are gaps in between the stone, spread one cup of decorative gravel (these smaller stones add more dimension to the terrarium and will provide additional drainage when fully assembled).” – Modern Terrarium Studio page 56
[dropcap]2.[/dropcap]Lay the Charcoal and soil mix.
Ahhh, the bitter sweet part. The other ladies and I thought it was such a shame to add soil to the beautiful stones Megan had provided within this workshop.
“Place a thin layer of activated charcoal followed by the soil mix filling the globe another one-fifth full. Make sure to keep your container clean; if needed, use a paintbrush to dust off any soil that might stick to the glass.” – Modern Terrarium Studio page 56
[dropcap]3.[/dropcap]Arrange and plant the succulents.
This was my FAVORITE Part! I thoroughly enjoyed how delicately yet strong these plants are and how resilient they are! I asked Megan how often I should water my succulents, about a cup a week of water! Once a WEEK!
Now that’s Low maintenance. ♥
“Unpot the succulents, removing any soil from the roots. Arrange the succulents; I suggest grouping the larger plants in the center and moving outward with the smaller plants. Be sure to leave room for the decorative wood piece.” – Modern Terrarium Studio page 56
The ZEN Succlent is a modern terrarium and plant craft business created by the mother/daughter team of Margaret and Megan George based in beautiful Raleigh, North Carolina.
The location couldn’t have been more perfect because I LOVE boutiques who house items from artisans and local designers such as Ramble Supply co.
